1 – Started Early

Born in Montreal in 1994, Eugenie Bouchard started playing tennis at the age of 5. By 11, she participated at the Open Super 12 tournament in Auray, France.

2 – Genie is a Twin

Genie has three siblings, including a twin sister named Beatrice. All four children were named after members of the Royal Family.

 

3 – Dr. Genie?

Genie was a star student in mathematics and science, and at one point considered a career as a physician.

4 – Genie is First

With a win at the 2012 Wimbledon Championships, Eugenie became the first Canadian ever to win a Grand Slam in singles – junior or pro.

5 – Award Winner

While some would argue 2013 to be Genie’s breakout year, winning WTA Newcomer of the Year, in 2014 she was named WTA’s Most Improved player. You can argue either way because in both years she won Tennis Canada female player of the year and the Bobbie Rosenfeld Award.

 

6 – Master of the Selfie

Well known for her playful selfies, Genie once even got a picture of herself with the pope!

 

7 – Budding TV Star

Genie is as comfortable on the court as in front of the camera, appearing on CTV’s The Social and has even tried her hand at weather forecasting.

8 – Best Buds with Sheldon

The Big Bang’s very own Sheldon – the actor Jim Parsons – is a huge fan of Eugenie Buchard and the two have become good friends. She even got to sit in Sheldon’s famous spot.

9 – Genie has her very own army

Fans of Eugenie Bouchard are pretty hardcore, calling themselves the “Genie Army”. #GenieArmy has become the go-to hashtag on social media when speaking about Genie.
