Abanda falls to Kanepi in Miami

Beneficiary of a main draw wildcard for the Miami Open, a combined ATP Masters 1000 and WTA Premier event, Françoise Abanda played her first round match in Key Biscayne on Tuesday.
The 18-year-old fell 6-2, 6-2 to world no. 51 Kaia Kanepi of Estonia in under an hour. Abanda was broken five times in the matches and won only three points when Kanepi was able to get her first serve in.

There are three other Canadians in the Miami main singles draws. Vasek Pospisil, who won the Indian Wells doubles title with Jack Sock over the weekend, will face returning Argentine Juan Martin Del Potro who is back from a second wrist surgery.
Eugenie Bouchard and Milos Raonic, seeded sixth and fifth respectively, both received opening round byes and will begin their title quests later this week.

Meanwhile, Pospisil, Daniel Nestor, and Gabriela Dabrowski will represent Canada in doubles in Miami.
