Roger Lajoie and Tom Tebbutt are back in studio for this season’s fourth episode of Aces on Sportsnet 590 The FAN. This week, they break down all the latest tennis news, both on and off the court. Catch up by listening here and by reading our recap below.

Guests

Denis Shapovalov – semifinalist at 2016 Junior Roland Garros, current world No. 380 on the pro circuit

The 17-year-old was a member of Canada’s first-ever team to capture the Junior Davis Cup last year. Shapovalov has built on his success from 2015 by capturing three ITF Pro Circuit Future titles this year.

He joins Tom from Moscow, where he was competing in an ATP Challenger tournament, to discuss his fondest memories from Roland Garros, which leftie he idolized growing up, his bond with his Junior Davis Cup teammates Felix Auger-Aliassime and Benjamin Sigouin, what it was like to work with Roger Federer as a hitting partner, and much more.

Hot Topics

  • Tom & Roger discuss the latest in the Maria Sharapova decision, and the precedent her suspension could set
  • How Eugenie Bouchard is faring on the grass courts, and what reuniting with coach Nick Saviano will bring to her game
  • The future of Canadian tennis, and how Canada’s “next generation” compares to years past

“Ask the Ump” with Tony Cho

Tony Cho, one of only two Canadian gold-badge officials with the International Tennis Federation and the referee for the upcoming 2016 Rogers Cup in Toronto, returns for his regular segment on Aces.

This week Tony sheds light on the problems inclement weather can pose during grass court season, and the process that must take place when the forecast calls for rain.

Tom’s mailbag

This week Tom answers questions about Ivan Lendl rejoining Andy Murray as a coach, the amount of drop shots this year at Roland Garros, difference in surface speeds, whether or not a two-year suspension could be the end of Sharapova’s career, and more.

Trivia with Tom

Another fantastic tennis prize is up for grabs! The winner could walk away with a Wilson Burn FST Racquet or Gold level tickets to Rogers Cup presented by National Bank!

This week’s question: What is unusual about the spelling of Shapovalov’s first name?

If you think you know the answer and/or would like to hear your questions responded to on-air, send them to Tom and Roger via Roger@Sportsnet590.ca and on Twitter @TheRog590 and @tomtebbutt.
