Félix Auger-Aliassime leaves Saturday for Dubai where he will continue his off-season training alongside some top ATP players including none other than Roger Federer.
“I have a lot of things to work on. It’s always great to learn from the best and it’s motivating to compare yourself to the top players in the world,” Auger-Aliassime said. “It’s an opportunity I have to take advantage of, but the most important thing is that I have to prepare myself for the upcoming season.”
Auger-Aliassime will train with the Swiss until December 20 before heading to the Australia to get ready to compete in qualifying at the first Grand Slam of 2018 in Mebourne.
“I admire everything he does on and off the court and the person that he is,” Auger-Aliassime said about Federer. “It will be a good chance for me and my coaches to learn from what he does to have been so good for so long.”
Looking ahead to 2018, the 17-year-old has set some lofty for himself in the New Year.
“I want to qualify for a Grand Slam, hopefully get directly into the main draw at the U.S. Open and finish the year in the Top 100. These are ambitious objectives, but still realistic if I have all the right things in place which I believe I do.”
