A fun week in Washington has come to an end for Genie Bouchard and Sloane Stephens. After upsetting the no. 1 seeded team in the semifinals, Bouchard and Stephens fell in the championship match to no. 2 seeds Shuko Aoyama and Renata Voracova 6-3, 6-2.

Both coming back from injury (Bouchard’s ankle and Stephens’ foot, respectively), the pair initially signed up for doubles as a way to get more match time.

Stephens was eliminated in singles by top seed Simona Halep in the opening round while Bouchard made it to the second round before falling to Andrea Petkovic. Bouchard was the last Canadian left standing in the tournament.

Less than 24 hours after the American-Canadian duo upset the top seeded team of Sania Mirza and Monica Niculescu, it’s certain the pair will be happy with their unpredicted result this week.

Bouchard and Stephens are now both en route to Rogers Cup in Toronto. Bouchard will face a qualifier in the opening round, Stephens will face Yulia Putintseva. Action kicks off Monday August 7.
