The tie will take place in Netherlands

It was on Tuesday in London that the International Tennis Federation (ITF) held the official draw for the 2019 Fed Cup by BNP Paribas season. Canada’s opponent for the upcoming first round tie in February is now know. The Canadian team will take on the Netherlands, who will host the tie, in the World Group II first round on February 9 and 10, 2019. The choice of surface, the venue as well as the players nominated for each team will be announced at a later date.

With their 3-2 victory over Ukraine this past April, Canada secured its place in World Group II. Considered as the underdogs on paper, the Canadian team composed of Françoise Abanda, Bianca Andreescu, Eugenie Bouchard and Gabriela Dabrowski showed courage and determination to win the tie in the decisive rubber.

This will be the seventh meeting between the two countries but the first one since 1987. Canada is currently ranked no. 17, while the Netherlands are no. 10. The winner of this tie will qualify for the World Group play-offs scheduled to take place in April.
