The Super-Seniors World Team Championships got underway on Sunday on clay in Umag, Croatia with more than 30 countries competing in nine age categories. Canada is represented in each of the draws except for the men’s 85 and over category.

The first days of the tournament are reserved for round robin play to determine who will contest matches in the main draws.

So far, the Canadian men’s and women’s 80 and over teams have posted the best results with a 6-3 record combined.

These squads feature some of Canada’s top senior players including Gaston Blais, a finalist in singles and doubles at the Steve Stevens Senior Nationals last month in Montreal. The women’s 80 and over quartet is led by national champion Inge Weber, one of the best players in the world.

The Super-Seniors World Team Championships continue until September 22. Stay tuned for the latest Canadian results!
