In 2006, Tennis Canada embarked on an initiative to help build community capacity in the Jane/Finch neighbourhood. With tennis as a vehicle, the goal was to develop a healthy community that would get kids to engage in healthy habits at an early age. Studies also showed that children active in organized sports performed better in school and in life. For more information, visit the website or click here for program details.
Our Mission
To relieve poverty and promote healthy recreation by providing and operating a structured recreational program for children and youth in need, in the Jane/Finch community of the City of Toronto.
THEORY OF CHANGE
1. Play | Children learn tennis and cooperative skills by playing team tennis lead by our youth coaches.
2. Volunteer | Youth volunteers help run our leagues year around, while attending the After School program during the school year where they receive academic support and improve tennis skills.
3. Work | Youth coaches work to run our leagues year around, are given the opportunity to become certified, and learn to become community leaders.
