Gabriela Dabrowski’s hot start to 2018 continued on Sunday as she captured her seventh career WTA doubles title at the Qatar Total Open in Doha.
The 25-year-old Ottawa native teamed up with reigning French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko of Latvia to win her first WTA Premier 5 crown thanks to a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Slovenia’s Andreja Klepac and Spaniard Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez in the championship match.
This is Dabrowski’s second biggest WTA title after being crowned champion of the Miami Open last year. It is also her second trophy of the season, adding to the title she won in Sydney last month and improving her record on the year to 15-3.
With her title in Doha, Dabrowski will crack the Top 10 on the WTA doubles rankings for the first time on Monday, moving up from no. 11 to no. 8.
