Gabriela Dabrowski, the last Canadian remaining at the Australian Open, played two matches on Monday night at the first Grand Slam of the season in Melbourne.
The Ottawa native first played her women’s doubles quarter-final with partner Yifan Xu. The pair battled hard against the accomplished Russian team of Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina, seeded second in the tournament, before ultimately falling 0-6, 6-1, 7-6(2). Dabrowski and Xu came into the Australian Open on a high after claiming the title in Sydney two weeks ago.

Dabrowski did redeem herself in mixed doubles with Mate Pavic of Croatia. The duo defeated the Dutch pair of Demi Schuurs and Jean-Julien Roger 6-1, 6-3 to reach the quarter-finals. They’ll play Johanna Larsson of Sweden and Matwe Middelkoop of the Netherlands for a spot in the semifinals on Wednesday night.
