CANADA'S FED CUP TEAM CLINCHES SPOT IN WORLD GROUP II

Defeats Argentina in a 5-0 clean sweep in Montreal

Montreal, April 25, 2010 – With a dominant display of tennis, the Miele Canadian Fed Cup team advanced to World Group II for the first time since 2007 on Sunday after sweeping their Fed Cup by BNP Paribas World Group II playoff tie against Argentina 5-0. The team of Sharon Fichman (Toronto), Marie-Eve Pelletier (Repentigny, Quebec), Valerie Tetreault (St-Jean-sur-Richelieu) and Aleksandra Wozniak (Blainville, Quebec) powered past an outmatched Argentinean squad dropping only one set in the five matches.

Canada's No. 1 singles player Wozniak delivered a gritty performance to earn the third and deciding point for her team with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Jorgelina Cravero. Despite having some trouble with her service games, Wozniak battled to the very end, eliciting cheers from the enthusiastic home crowd at Uniprix Stadium.

"I had a little drop in energy in the second set and I really had to dig to finish the match off in two sets," said Wozniak. "I'm so happy and relieved at the same that it is over and we were able to get into World Group II after missing so many opportunities in the past years."
