Canadian Juniors Win Titles in Tulsa
Canada took home three of the four titles over the weekend at the Pan American ITF Championships in Tulsa, Oklahoma, a Grade B1 ITF junior event.
In fact, there were Canadians in all four finals including an all-Canadian girls’ singles championship between Françoise Abanda (Montreal, QC) and Carol Zhao (Richmond Hill, ON), the tournament’s top two seeds. Abanda beat Zhao several weeks ago in the Repentigny final and once again got the better of her compatriot in Tulsa thanks to a 7-6(5), 4-6, 7-5 victory.
Zhao redeemed herself in doubles as she and Erin Routliffe (Caledon, ON) were crowned champions after defeating Charlotte Petrick and Denise Starr 6-1, 7-5 in the final. The top-seeded duo did not drop a set in the tournament.
Hugo Di Feo (Montreal, QC) and Brayden Schnur (Pickering, ON) picked up the boys’ doubles title with a 6-3, 6-1 win over the American team of Martin Redlicki and Noah Rubin. Rubin defeated Di Feo 6-2, 2-6, 6-2 to capture the boys’ singles crown in another battle of the top two seeds.
