It was a tough day at the office for no. 9 seed Milos Raonic at the Delray Beach Open as he suffered his first loss to Steve Johnson in the second round, 6-2, 6-4.

Struggling with the windy conditions and Johnson’s quick pace, Raonic found himself down an early break to trail 2-1. He was broken again to go down 5-2, showing signs of rust due to his lack of official match play since returning from injury. Johnson faced only one break point when he found himself down 30-40 while serving for the set.

Johnson broke Raonic for a third time to start second set. Raonic was unable to grab any momentum on his serve or in his return games as Johnson cruised to a straight sets win.

Across the grounds, Denis Shapovalov and Peter Polansky were in doubles action against Matthew Ebden and Donald Young. Their comeback effort fell just short of a victory as they were defeated 6-3, 5-7, 10-3.

Shapovalov is still in singles action. He plays Jared Donaldson in second round action on Thursday.
