2009 Miele League Challenge Contest Winners
Imagine standing by Centre Stage prior to the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour semifinal at Toronto’s Rogers Cup and hearing the emcee announce your name as the Grand Prize winner of the 2009 Miele League Challenge contest! A delighted yet disbelieving Margarita Samoilova heard her name called and slowly realized that she was the winner of an on-court experience with Miele League Challenge official spokesperson and Grand Slam winner, Daniel Nestor. After correctly answering a skill-testing question, Margarita, who’s been playing tennis enthusiastically for the last 25 years, promised that she would make herself available according to Daniel’s schedule, and is really looking forward to meeting the tennis legend. This year’s contest prizes were generously donated by Miele Limited and Tennis Canada.Other 2009 contest winners include:
2nd Prize: Trip for two to 2010 Rogers Cup presented by National Bank in Montreal - Nels Stanford
2nd Prize: Trip for two to 2010 Rogers Cup in Toronto – Elaine Uskoski

Did you know?
Miele's induction cooktop offers the benefits of a gas flame, including rapid heat-up and cool down, without the concerns of gas and other types of electric heating. With no open flame, there is no excess heat introduced into the working environment resulting in a cooler work space. Safety is one of the key advantages of induction cooking: elements on without ferrous material equals no heat and if a cooking zone is turned on without a pot on it, the zone will not be powered.Since the only part of the cooktop that heats up is covered by a pot or pan, spills won’t bake on, which makes clean-up as easy as wiping with a damp cloth!

InterCounty Tennis Tournament a Huge Success
More than 200 players of all levels and ages took to the courts under sunny skies for the third annual InterCounty Tennis Association (ICTA) Tournament on Saturday, September 12 at Rexall Centre in Toronto. Fans came out to watch and enjoy the day’s excitement as every court had league championship matches from 9:00 a.m. until the last ball was struck in near darkness. The primary sponsor for the ICTA Tournament is the Miele League Challenge, whose objective is to promote league tennis. With four leagues and 26 teams to cheer for, this objective was certainly on full display. Teams patiently waited for their chance to get photos taken on Centre Court during the awards ceremony. ICTA President Sherry Shannon-Vanstone proclaimed, “The ICTA is delighted to have the support of Miele Limited and Tennis Canada for our annual showcase event. Each year we add more sponsors, more fun and the level of excitement for the players also grows.” For complete scores and more than 1000 photos from the day, please go to Tournament Page.
Summer Tennis in Montreal
Since the early 1960’s some form of summer inter-club league tennis has been played in the Montreal area. Like all organized tennis though, someone has to do the actual organizing every year! Since 1975 it has been the volunteers of the Montreal and Lakeshore Inter-Club Tennis League (MLITL). Consisting of a five-member executive committee, the MLITL manages all of the details necessary to get approximately 300 men and women from 13 clubs playing tennis in a format of two singles and two doubles positions. This year, the Ladies A division team from Monkland Tennis Club proudly represented their league in a Miele League Challenge showcase match at Montreal’s Rogers Cup presented by National Bank in August. Even though they lost a close one to the Women’s Inter-Club Daytime League team from Hampstead Tennis Club, MLITL President Casimir Ternynck was “excited that our teams were included in Tennis Canada’s new focus on league tennis players.” Ternynck had hoped to include the names of this year’s league champions but rainy weather has dragged the season well into September. Congratulations to those who prevail!
