Montreal’s Samuel Monette booked his spot in the finals of the $25,000 Bruno Agostinelli Futures on Saturday, with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over No. 6 seed Nicholas Hu. The 23-year-old Canadian needed just 71 minutes to dismantle his American opponent at The Club @ White Oaks in Niagara Falls.
The former Indian Hoosier NCAA talent reached his first ITF Futures final after capturing three aces and five breaks in the win. Now, Monette will face the tournament’s top seed, Sam Barry of Ireland in Sunday’s championship match.
Barry advanced following a 6-4, 7-5 semifinal victory over American Harrison Adams on Saturday. He meets Monette for their first career meeting in Sunday’s showdown at 11 a.m.
The $25,000 ITF Pro Circuit tournament is in it’s second year, and is named for former tennis coach, player, and Niagara Falls native Bruno Agostinelli Jr. The tournament runs from September 18-24 at the Club @ White Oaks in Niagara Falls, Ontario.
