Coming in at No. 5 on our Top 10 highlights list is the magical run that two of Canada’s most promising juniors made to capture the Junior US Open doubles title.

Both Felix Auger-Aliassime and Denis Shapovalov were coming off some impressive summer results heading into Flushing Meadows. In the weeks leading up to the US Open, they had both made the finals at the U18 Rogers Outdoor Junior National Championships and ITF Grade 1 tournament in College Park, Maryland. Shapovalov was victorious at junior nationals with Auger-Aliassime returning the favour at College Park. Earlier in the summer, Auger-Aliassime had created waves in Quebec when, at just 14 years old, he reached the quarter-finals of an ATP Challenger event in Granby.

They went from opponents to teammates in New York and, with the win, became the 10th and 11th Canadians to capture Junior Grand Slam titles and just the second all-Canadian duo to win a doubles trophy. It was Auger-Aliassime’s Grand Slam debut.
