26 things you may not know about Vasek Pospisil

A career-high world singles ranking of 25 and No. 4 in doubles, Pospisil has been lighting up the ATP circuit. 1,595 aces to date, a Wimbledon title, and a key player on the Davis Cup team year after year, we can’t wait to see what he does next.

As devout followers, we’re well-acquainted with his long list of tennis accomplishments, so let’s get to the good stuff — like, what fast food can he not live without, and what were the names of his childhood dogs? Simply put: who is Vasek Pospisil? Here is a list of 26 things you may or may not know about one of our favourite Canadian sports exports:

1. Today is Vashy’s birthday! ? He was born on June 23, 1990 in Vernon, BC; a small city in the Okanagan Valley with a population of about 35,000.

2. He’s no stranger to an inception-esque selfie!

3. Must love dogs! He grew up with two retrievers, Majka & Sunny.

4. He’s a firm believer in no laundry machine, no problem; a sink works just fine.

5. He absolutely loves Chipotle.

6. He also loves music, and is a very big fan of acoustic guitars.

7. He played his first tennis tournament at age six and took home the trophy for boys under 12.

8. He started a homeschooling program in grade seven so he could focus on his tennis.

9. When he was 14 his dad became his full-time tennis coach.

10. His mom texts him before every match.

11. He likes coconut yogurt.

12. He has two brothers, Tom and Petr.

13. He knows a thing or two about getting rid of a sock tan.

14. His coach Frédéric Fontang thinks he eats too much sushi.

15. You can sometimes find him on a Sunday couch surfing with his friends.

16. When he was 12 years old he commuted 45 minutes nearly every day for six years in the winter so he could play indoors.

17. Both his father and his mother played recreational tennis growing up while living in the Czech Republic.

18. At three years old he was already dragging a mini racquet around.

19. In 2003, he started his first trips with Tennis Canada and travelled with three other Canadian players.

20. He prefers grass over clay.

21. His nickname is Vashy.

22. His astrological sign is Cancer.

23. He’s 193 centimetres tall. (Where’d he get that height from? ? )

So lucky to have a family like mine. Happy I was able to stop by #Vancouver for the day.
