With Denis Shapovalov, Milos Raonic, Vasek Pospisil, Francoise Abanda, Bianca Andreescu and Eugenie Bouchard all competing there was no shortage of Canadians at Wimbledon. Tom and Roger delved into Genie Bouchard’s early exit from Wimbledon, her ankle injury and if she will ever get back to the level she was playing at in 2014. They also talked Francoise Abanda who earned her first Grand Slam victory and Bianca Andreescu who battled through qualifying to make it to the main draw.
Tom sat down with young Canadian pro Denis Shapovalov ahead of his main draw match against Jerzy Janowicz. Denis spoke about his impressive 2017 season, playing at Queen’s Club and what it’s like competing in the Wimbledon main draw versus when he won the Wimbledon junior title last year.
In his press conference, Shapovalov discussed his match against Janowicz and commented on his friend and fellow Canadian tennis player Felix Auger Aliassime receiving a wildcard to the Rogers Cup.
Good friends Aliassime and Shapovalov will both be playing their first round Rogers Cup matches on Tuesday August 8th.
Canadian WTA tour supervisor Tony Cho returned to “Aces” for his segment with Tom Tebutt. This week, Tony discussed how tennis umpires use technology to assist in their job. He also talked about where technology can come up short and how stats are recorded and calculated. Be sure to check out the full interview!
As always on “Aces”, fan questions are answered and discussed by Tom and Roger. Fans asked about Genie’s recent struggles, whether Denis Shapovalov turned pro too early and what is wrong with Milos Raonic’s serve return.
