Tom Tebbutt has just returned from his trip across the pond to Wimbledon and he joined Roger Lajoie for another great episode of “Aces” on Sportsnet 590 the FAN. This week the duo discussed Roger Federer’s brilliance and the competitive and unpredictable women’s side. Tom also sat down with former Wimbledon finalist and Bianca Andreescu’s coach, Nathalie Tauziat.
Tom was part of the media circus at Wimbledon and came back with his usual insightful analysis of a great tournament! He discussed the incredible Roger Federer and if he has started a trend as Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic are considering taking some time off to rest. He also discussed Canadian Milos Raonic’s tournament and how a limited number of grass court matches might have affected his Wimbledon performance.
Was Eugenie Bouchard playing the French Open while injured a mistake? Could it affect her upcoming tournaments? Tom discusses this topic and much more!
Tom sat down with the former Wimbledon finalist to discuss a range of topics. Tauziat conversed on the experience of making the Wimbledon final and how it is one of her fondest but also one of her toughest memories. The French born coach of Bianca Andreescu had high praise for her Canadian pupil. She discussed Andreescu’s maturity beyond her years, her Grand Slam debut at Wimbledon and what the 17 year old needs to do to get to the next level. Tauziat also briefly touched on her time coaching Eugenie Bouchard and what she learned from that experience.
Canadian WTA tour supervisor Tony Cho returned to Aces this week to discuss the process of scheduling. Tony discussed the various stakeholders involved in the process such as players, agents, tour managers and broadcast rights holders. He then the story of a recent rain delay he experienced in Doha and how he and his team handled the situation. Tom asked Tony about star players and if and when they get “special treatment”. Tony’s answer may surprise you!
This week Tom was asked some great questions from listeners of the show. The first question was whether Milos Raonic has “too many cooks in the kitchen” when it comes to his coaching staff and what Raonic needs to do to beat “the big four”. He was also asked about the horrific injury to Bethanie Mattek-Sands and if she is going to make a full recovery. The questions lead to some insightful commentary from Tom and Roger, if you have a tennis question for the show, email email@example.com
By answering Tom’s trivia question, fans could win a pair of tickets to the Rogers Cup and be entered into a draw for a Wilson Burn Racquet! Do you know the answer to the following question?
Wimbledon champion Garbine Muguruza is Spanish, as is her father. However, Muguruza almost played for THIS country because her mom is from there… Is it 1) Venezuela 2) Costa Rica or 3) Guatemala??
