Arseneault and Muamba champions of the U16 Indoor Rogers Junior Nationals

Quebec’s Nicaise Muamba and Ariana Arseneault were crowned champions of the U16 Indoor Rogers Junior Nationals on Wednesday at the Nun’s Island Tennis Club in Montreal.

In the boys’ singles final, Muamba defeated Jerry Huang 6-1, 6-2 in a battle of the tournament’s top two seeds. Luka Vukovic topped Nick Lagaev 3-6, 7-6(1), 6-4 to finish third.

For her part, Arseneault needed three sets to overcome Jessie Gong of B.C. 5-7, 6-1, 6-0 in the girls’ championship match. Alisia Stephanie Manolescu beat Tiffany Lagarde 2-6, 6-2, 6-3 to finish third.

Arseneault also captured the girls’ doubles crown alongisde her partner Jada Bui. Liam Draxl and Ryan Navarro took home the boys’ doubles title.

The tournament welcomed the best U16 players in Canada and the indoor nationals will conclude next week with the presentation of the U14 and U18 events in Vancouver and Toronto, respectively.
