Félix Auger-Aliassime has been awarded wild-card entry into the ATP World Tour 250 event in Umag, Croatia next week, marking his fifth main-draw appearance at the tour level this season.

Following showings at the ATP events in Rotterdam, Marseille, Indian Wells and Monte Carlo earlier in 2018, the 17-year-old opted to drop down to the ATP Challenger level to gain valuable experience competing with the pros on clay courts – a choice that almost immediately paid dividends.

The Montreal native successfully defended his title at the Lyon Challenger, joining the elite company of players like Novak Djokovic and Juan Martin del Potro as players to win three or more Challenger titles aged 17 or younger. He followed up his victory in Lyon with a finals appearance in Blois only a week later, as well as a semifinal finish in Marburg just last week.

Auger-Aliassime boasts a 12-3 win-loss record in his past four events coming into the popular ATP World Tour stop in the coastal town of Umag. The tournament, which is played on the current World No. 152’s preferred clay courts, was won by fellow #NextGenATP star Andrey Rublev last year, who returns to defend his title in this year’s edition.

Auger-Aliassime notched his first ATP World Tour main draw victory at Indian Wells in March, defeating compatriot Vasek Pospisil in the first round before losing to another fellow Canadian, Milos Raonic in the second round.
