Canada’s top seeds at the $15,000 Richmond Country Club Futures have both booked a spot in the quarter-finals after second-round play wrapped on Thursday. Philip Bester and Brayden Schnur will play their quarter-final matches on Friday at the Richmond Country Club in British Columbia.
Bester, the tournament’s No. 1 seed, ousted American Eric James Johnson in three sets 6-4, 3-6, 7-6(4) to advance to the final eight. He will go head to head with No. 6 seed Kaichi Uchida of Japan. Uchida defeated Canadian Tommy Mylnikov in straight sets 7-6(5), 6-1 to make his way to the quarter-finals.
Bester joins Schnur in the quarter-finals. The No. 7 seed will face the No. 4 seed Farris Fathi Gosea on Friday. No. 2 seed Eric Quigley and No. 3 seed Marcos Giron also advanced to the quarters.
The Canadian’s run in the doubles draw came to an end on Thursday when Bester and American partner, Matt Seeberger, fell to Americans Hunter Nicholas and Raymond Sarmiento 6-4, 7-6(3).
