Four Canadians have advanced to the second round at the $15,000 Richmond Country Club Futures after play concluded on Tuesday. No. 1 seed Philip Bester, Tommy Mylnikov and Henry Choi will join No. 7 seed Brayden Schnur in the second round when play continues at the Richmond Country Club in British Columbia on Wednesday.
It took Bester three sets to eliminate fellow Canadian and reigning U18 national champion Denis Shapovalov 6-7(4), 6-4, 6-4. He will face American Eric James Johnson in the second round. Mylnikov ousted Bijan Hejazi in straight sets 6-0, 6-1 and will next challenge No. 6 seed Kaichi Uchida of Japan. Choi defeated compatriot Dane Dunlap 6-2, 6-4 to book his second-round spot where he will go head-to-head with Schnur.
In the doubles draw, No. 1 seeds Bester and Matt Seeberger will go against Americans Johnson and Johnny Wang on Wednesday. Also playing for a spot in the semifinals are Canadians Dylan Bednarczyk and Riaan Du Toit who will face No. 2 seeds Keith-Patrick Crowley and Hans Hach.
