Bianca Andreescu (Toronto, ON) capped her impressive 2015 season with the biggest victory of her young career on Sunday at the Dunlop Orange Bowl in Plantation, Florida.
The 15-year-old Canadian defeated American Kayla Day 7-6(7), 6-4 to capture the U18 girls singles title at the prestigious Grade A event. Andreescu avenged her defeat at the hands of Day two weeks ago in the final of a Grade 1 tournament in Mexico.
The win is Andreescu’s third title of the season and second straight at the Orange Bowl. She was the U16 girls champion last year.
Andreescu is just the third Canadian U18 Orange Bowl champion, following in the footsteps of Carling Bassett (1982) and Gabriela Dabrowski (2009). She will finish 2015 ranked inside the Top 10 on the ITF junior rankings, further solidifying her status as the top-ranked 15-year-old player in the world.
Meanwhile, Nicaise Muamba (Montreal, QC) was a finalist in the U16 boys doubles draw.
