Eugenie Bouchard kicked off her clay court season on Tuesday at the Volvo Car Open in Charleston, South Carolina.
The 22-year-old defeated Alexandra Dulgheru of Romania 6-3, 6-4 in opening round action on a windy Centre Court. She will face Spaniard Lourdes Dominguez Lino in her next match.
Charleston has been a successful WTA stop for Bouchard in her young career. In 2013, she reached the quarter-finals as a qualifier, a run that allowed her to crack the Top 100 for the first time. In 2014, she advanced to the semifinals thanks to victories over Venus Williams and Jelena Jankovic before falling 7-5 in the third set to Andrea Petkovic in the semis.
