Bianca Andreescu’s start to 2019 is just getting better and better.

Late Thursday night at the ASB Classic in Auckland, New Zealand, the 18-year-old Canadian scored the biggest upset of the tournament and, no doubt, the biggest win over career in a gritty 6-4, 6-4 decision over World No. 3 and reigning Australian Open champion Caroline Wozniacki.

Despite struggling with various delays, including a medical timeout for a recurring back issue, cramps, rain stoppage and glitchy signage, Andreescu was able to hold her nerve to seal victory in two hours, twelve minutes after one final forehand winner. The win moves the Mississauga-native’s record against Top 20 WTA opponents to 2-0, and she joins compatriots Milos Raonic and Genie Bouchard in the quarter-finals of their season-opening tournaments.

Standing between Andreescu and her maiden WTA semi-final is another former World No. 1 and Grand Slam champion: Venus Williams.
