The trophy is now within the sights of Canada’s Rosie Johanson as semifinal action heats up at the $15,000 EncoreFX Victoria Challenger taking place from June 19-25 at the Panorama Recreation Centre in Victoria.
Johanson, a 18-year-old from Abbotsford, B.C. secured her spot in the semifinals on Friday with a big upset over No. 4 seed Miyohori Ozeki of Japan. Johanson rebounded after a slow start to defeat the No. 4 seed 3-6, 6-2, 6-4. Johanson next takes on American Alexa Graham in the semifinal. Graham toppled top-seed Marcela Zacarias of Mexico 6-4, 6-0 on Friday.

On the other side of the draw, No. 2 seed Tori Kinard of the United States takes on Kana Daniel of Japan in the other semifinal. Kinard took down Wendy Qi-Wen Zhang 6-1, 6-4 on Friday in Victoria.
The doubles crown was also presented on Friday. No. 3 seeds A Villarreal and Marcela Zacarias of Mexico defeated Americans Alexa Graham and Frances Altick 7-5, 6-4 to capture the championship.
