Canada’s top seed into semis at Victoria Challenger

Canada’s Rosie Johanson, the No. 2 seed is into the semifinals after quarter-finals finished at the $10,000 Victoria Women’s Challenger on Friday in British Columbia.

Stacey Fung, a 2014 semifinalist, went head to head with No. 3 seed Kristina N Smith. Though Fung took the first set off of Smith, she eventually fell in three sets 6-7(4), 6-2, 6-1 to be knocked out. Rosie Johanson, the No. 2 seed, defeated American Karina Kristina Vyrlan in straight sets 6-2, 6-1 to advance to the semifinals. She will face American Gail Brodsky on Saturday.

No. 1 seed Naomi Totka of Hungary defeated Canadian Lauren Chypyha in straight sets 6-4, 6-1. Totka will face Smith in the semifinals on Saturday.

In the doubles championship, Canadians Rosie Johanson and Daniella Silva went head to head with Americans Joanna Mary Smith and Kristina N Smith. The Canadians came out on top, winning the doubles championship 6-3, 6-2.
