Carol Zhao (Richmond Hill, Ont.) has been named to the Canadian tennis team at the Toronto 2015 Pan Am Games, replacing the injured Sharon Fichman (Toronto).

Zhao will be replacing Fichman, whose ankle injury has not recovered enough for her to play the Games, in both the women’s singles and doubles events. She is joining the previously announced Francoise Abanda (Montreal), Gabriela Dabrowski (Ottawa), Philip Bester (Burnaby, BC), Peter Polansky (Thornhill, Ont.), and Brayden Schnur (Pickering, Ont.) on the Canadian squad.

Twenty-year-old Zhao is coming off her sophomore season at the University of Stanford. Currently the No. 2-ranked singles player in NCAA Division I tennis, she made the singles final of the NCAA Championships in May. She is a former member of Tennis Canada’s National Training Centre in Montreal.

The tennis event of the Toronto 2015 Pan Am Games will take place at the Canadian Tennis Centre from July 10-16.
