Frank Dancevic is one win away from clinching his 11th professional singles title after he ousted No. 2 seed Tennys Sandgren of the United States 1-6, 7-6(5), 6-1 on Saturday to earn a spot in the $15,000 Calgary Futures final.
It was No. 3-seeded Dancevic’s first big test of the week, as he hadn’t lost a set leading into the semifinals.
In the championship match, the Canadian will take on the No. 7 seed, Gonzalo Escobar of Ecuador, who took down another American in Kevin King 6-2, 6-2 to extend his winning streak to nine matches. Escobar won his fifth ITF Pro Circuit title just last week in Winnipeg.
The two athletes have never played each other before on the pro circuit.
Dancevic and Escobar will close out the 2015 Calgary Futures at 12 p.m. local time/2 p.m. ET on Sunday. The final will take place at the Calgary Winter Club, as opposed to official host venue Calgary Tennis Club, due to weather. Admission is free for fans to attend.
