Frank Dancevic has extended his win streak to 10 matches after he ousted top seed Tennys Sandgren of the United States 7-5, 6-3 in the $15,000 Donalda Futures final at Donalda Club on Saturday to claim his second consecutive ITF Pro Circuit title.
Heading into the final, No. 262-ranked Sandgren had not lost a single set all week. But No. 2-seeded Dancevic was the stronger player on the day, not facing a single break point throughout the match. In a close first set, it was even at five games apiece before the Canadian veteran earned the first break of the duel. He then captured an early service break in the second set and was in control of the match from that point on.
With the win, he will be taking home his 11th career professional singles trophy and second in as many weeks. The 30-year-old was victorious at the $15,000 Calgary Futures last week as well, where he also defeated Sandgren en route, but in the semifinals.
Currently ranked world No. 277, the Niagara Falls, Ont. native now has two crowns on the year. His next challenge will be the $15,000 Tevlin Futures, taking place next week at Aviva Centre in Toronto, where he will aim to keep his win streak alive.
The $15,000 Donalda Futures took place at Donalda Club in Toronto from September 5-12. For the complete final draws and results, please visit the ITF website.
