Canadian Steven Diez reached the semifinals of the $25,000 ITF Futures event in Sabadell, Spain on Friday. Diez defeated Belgium’s Yannick Vandenbulcke 7-5, 6-1 to advance to the final four.
The straight-set victory took just under two hours for the 26-year-old No. 4 seed to complete.

Now, Diez prepares to face Pascal Brunner of Austria in Saturday’s semifinal as he continues his bid for his first title of the season.
Also in action on Friday, fellow Canadian Frank Dancevic fell 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 in the quarter-finals of the $100,000 Tiburon Challenger in California.
Despite capturing the first set, India’s Prajnesh Gunneswaran was able to turn the match around and take the next two sets to complete the victory.
Dancevic also reached the quarter-finals in doubles, alongside partner Ruben Bemelmans of Belgium. The pair were defeated by No. 1 seeds Marcelo Arevalo and Miguel Angel Reyes-Varlea of Mexico 7-6(5), 6-4 on Thursday.
