With Thursday’s semifinal action in the books, the stage has been set for two exciting final match-ups at the U18 Indoor Rogers Junior Nationals at Mayfair Parkway in Markham, Ontario.

The day’s results saw tournament top seed Nicaise Muamba lock up his spot in the remaining two of the boys’ draw. Laval’s Muamba defeated Malik Bhatnagar 7-6(5), 4-6, 6-4 in the semifinals.

Now the reigning U18 outdoor champion gears up to take on fellow Laval native Taha Baadi in Friday’s championship match. The No. 2 seed advanced from his semifinal showdown versus Liam Draxl of Newmarket, Ontario. Baadi defeated Draxl 6-4, 7-6(3) on Thursday.

Baadi was a double champion in the 2016 U16 Rogers Outdoor Junior Nationals, winning both singles and doubles titles, and now looks to steal the crown from Muamba on Friday.

In the girls’ draw, top seed Rhea Verma of Ontario escaped a tough first set against Ontario’s Natasha Sengphrachanh in Thursday’s action at Mayfair Parkway. Verma won 1-6, 6-3, 6-3 to move into the final round. She takes on qualifier Anca Craciun of Ontario on Friday.

Craciun advanced through three rounds of qualifying action last week to book her spot in the main draw. Now, through five rounds, Craciun has yet to drop a set and beat fellow qualifier Savanna Ly 6-2, 6-1 on Thursday.

Craciun and Verma will now prepare to face off for the trophy. You can watch the U18 finals live on Rogers TV in the GTA. Check your local listings:
