Félix Auger-Aliassime is on fire!

Following an impressive first-round victory over Cameron Norrie, the 18-year-old was back on the court Saturday, taking on World No. 10 Stefanos Tsitsipas in the second round of the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells. Although this was their first meeting on the professional tour, the Canadian held a perfect 3-0 record against his Greek opponent at the junior level and continued on his winning streak today. He put on a dominant performance against the tournament’s ninth seed, taking the match by a score of 6-4, 6-2.

Auger-Aliassime got off to a hot start, getting an important break point in just the third game of the set. Pressuring Tsitsipas from the baseline, the young Canadian fired winner after winner, eventually sealing the opening set. The youngster continued his dominance against the Australian Open semi-finalist in the second.  He notably won 81% of his first service points, saving all seven break points that he faced as well as breaking his opponent’s serve on three occasions. He won 61 points compared to just 45 for Tsitsipas.

This victory is Auger-Aliassime’s first against a Top 10 player. In the next round, the 18-year-old will take on the winner of the match between Yoshihito Nishioka and Roberto Bautista Agut, the tournament’s 21st seed.
