Fichman and Zhao, who recently were quarter-finalists at Rogers Cup presented by National Bank in Toronto, will take on British-American pair Johanna Konta and Maria Sanchez for a place in the final. Their match is scheduled for Friday at not before 6:30 p.m. local time/9:30 p.m. ET.
Fellow Canadian Gabriela Dabrowski and Japanese partner Shuko Aoyama were upset in the quarter-finals, with the No. 1-seeded pair falling to Kiki Bertens and Jelena Ostapenko 6-4, 7-5.
In the singles draw, No. 1 seed Kirsten Flipkens of Belgium – a former Wimbledon semifinalist – is taking on No. 6 seed Bertens of Netherlands in the quarter-finals. Other seeds still alive are No. 4 Yanina Wickmayer and No. 7 Konta.
