Alexis Galarneau (Laval, QC) was crowned boys singles champion on Friday at the ITF Grade 2 U18 World Ranking event in Montreal.
After losing just one set all week, Galarneau defeated his compatriot and top seed Jack Mingjie Lin (Toronto, ON) 7-5, 6-3 in the final. Lin had not lost a set heading into the title match. This is the biggest title of Galarneau’s career to date. He won a grade 4 tournament earlier this year.
Lin was a finalist doubles as well alongside fellow Canadian Joshua Peck who also reached the semifinals in singles.
Galarneau, Lin and Peck are all member of Tennis Canada’s full-time National Training Centre in Montreal.
