In their first meeting since 2014, World No. 1 Simona Halep put on an impressive display against Eugenie Bouchard en route to a 6-2, 6-2 win and a berth in the third round.
The Romanian showed no signs of struggling with the ankle injury she suffered in her first match, winning most of the longer, drawn out rallies and forcing Bouchard to hit an extra ball. There were a lot of close games and it was Halep who delivered most when it mattered.

For her part, the Canadian tried to be aggressive and stay inside the court, but made a few too many unforced errors, especially off the forehand, and held just once in the match.
Bouchard was making her fifth straight appearance in the second round of the Australian while Halep will continue her quest for her first career Major.
