Canadian Kenneth Dahl’s suitcase will be a little bit heavier on his return trip from Umag, Croatia after the 36th ITF Super Seniors World Individual Championships.
Dahl solved No. 3 seed Petr Kolacek 7-6(4), 6-4 on Saturday to bring home the gold medal for the men’s singles over-70 division. Dahl completed the straight-sets victory to become the world champion.
Dahl’s title is the first of two other possible first-place finishes for Canadians at this year’s super senior world championships. While Rosemarie Asch and Lorne Main fell in the mixed doubles over-85 final 2-6, 6-4, 10-5, Asch will have another chance to bring home gold.
On Sunday, Asch, the No. 2 seed, takes on Australia’s Margaret Fisher in the final of the women’s singles over-85 final. Compatriot Inge Weber also seeks gold. She competes against Helen Ferris of Australia in the final of the women’s singles over-80 final.
