Krainik wins, Peliwo and Polansky fall at Donalda Futures

Main draw action at the $15,000 Donalda Futures at Donalda Club in Toronto began on Monday, with Pavel Krainik the only Canadian to advance on the day.

Krainik ousted fellow Canuck and wild card Jack Mingjie Lin 6-2, 6-3 to earn his place in the second round. He will face No. 4-seeded American Chase Buchanan for a place in the quarter-finals.

No. 8 seed Filip Peliwo and Peter Polansky were unable to join their countryman in the second round. Peliwo was no match for his opponent, dropping a 6-0, 6-1 decision to Michael Shabaz of the United States, while Polansky was undone 5-7, 6-1, 6-2 by another American, Wil Spencer.

No. 2 seed Frank Dancevic, who captured the Calgary Futures title this past weekend, is still to play with the veteran Canadian opening his tournament on Tuesday.

Top seed Tennys Sandgren was victorious on the first day of play, advancing past fellow American Nick Chappell, a qualifier, by a score of 7-5, 6-3. Sandgren is currently ranked world No. 262.
