The Rogers Outdoor Junior Nationals have been taking place over the past few weeks, with the winners in the, U12, U16 and U18 categories having already been crowned. The final leg is the U14 event which is being held this week in Mont-Tremblant.

The U16 tournament took place in Gatineau this year, with a strong line-up of payers. Despite the presence of three seeded players in the semi-finals, it was local rising star Mélodie Collard who made the headlines. Not only did she reach both the singles and doubles finals, she also defeated the no. 1, no. 3 and no. 5 seeds along the way. Although she came up short in the singles final against Sarah-Maude Fortin, she was able to walk away with the doubles title alongside Érica Di Battista. In the boy’s final, the second seed Marko Stakusic was victorious over Antoine Marleau (no. 9), Marleau who also had a great week in Gatineau, notably taking out the no. 1 seed in the semi-finals.

In Mississauga, the U18 event was a battle between some of the rising stars in Canadian tennis, with both the boy’s and girl’s finals featuring the tournament’s top seeds. It was Justin Boulais (no. 3) who got the better of Taha Baadi (no. 1) in the boy’s final, while Jada Bui (no. 2) defeated Natasha Sengphrachanh (no. 1) in the girl’s final. Bui also went on to win the doubles title, playing alongside Ariana Arseneault. Both singles draws also had strong semi-final matches as they featured players inside the Top 5.

The U12 tournament took place in Mont-Tremblant and ended with a victory for the no. 1 seed in the boy’s draw, Danny Yassine, in a tight three set final. Yassine was also the top seed in the doubles draw with partner Denny Boa, but the duo was unable to take home the title, falling to the unseeded pair of Kai Baerg and Keegan Rice. On the girl’s side, the no. 2 seed Anastasia Kavounov defeated the no. 5 seed Naomi Xu in the final.
