Vasek Pospisil has advanced into his first ATP World Tour semifinal of the season thanks to a 6-3, 6-3 victory over German Daniel Brands in the Valencia Open quarter-finals in Spain on Friday.
Pospisil, ranked world No. 43, saved all four break points he faced throughout the 74-minute match. Losing just four points on his first serve and winning 62 total points to Brands’ 46, Pospisil handily ousted his opponent, a qualifier at the ATP World Tour 250 tournament.
After making three other quarter-finals this season at Wimbledon, Atlanta, and Kuala Lumpur, this is the first semifinal the 25-year-old Canadian has reached this year, and the sixth of his career (2013 Bogota, Montreal, Basel; 2014 Chennai, Washington).
Standing in his way of a berth in the final will be Portuguese Joao Sousa, who currently leads Pospisil in the head-to-head 1-0.
