Vasek Pospisil was eliminated from the Valencia Open in Spain on Saturday, falling to Portuguese Joao Sousa 6-4, 6-4 in the semifinals.
Pospisil was broken once per set as Sousa clinched a straightforward victory. The 25-year-old Canadian held two break points to get back on serve in the second set but Sousa held on. Pospisil never held a lead in the one hour and 20-minute match, in what was his first semifinal of the season.
Ranked world No. 43, Pospisil will now head to Paris where he is competing with American Jack Sock in the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tournament’s doubles draw.
