The Canadian over-60 men’s team currently remains on track to hoisting the Von Cram Cup at the ITF Seniors World Team Championships. The team has advanced to the the quarter-finals of a highly-competitive group this week in Miami, Florida as the event runs from October 29 – November 4, 2017.
Canada’s Barry Goman, Keith Porter, John Harvey and Greig Redding have been kept busy in their opening days of action at the annual event. On Sunday, the over-60 men defeated Denmark 3-0, before registering another sweep over Ireland on Tuesday.
Canada now leaves the Group stage of competition with an undefeated record in Group F. The team’s next challenge comes in the quarter-finals against No. 4 seeded Spain. Their opponents also sport a clean sheet heading into the play-off rounds.
Canada and Spain meet on Wednesday for the chance to advance.
The over-60 Alice Marble Cup team takes on Argentina in a bid for a fifth-place finish on Wednesday, after splitting their round robin matches earlier this week. Canada delivered a big win against the Netherlands on Monday, however, the over-60 women were defeated in Tuesday’s hard-fought rubber versus France.
Also in action on Wednesday, Canada’s over-50 men meet on Chile, the Maria Esther Bueno Cup team takes on Brazil, the Austria Cup team squares off against the Netherlands, and the over-55 Canadian women will meet the winner of Estonia and Norway.
