It was a double dose of good news for Milos Raonic on Monday at the Mutua Madrid Open, an ATP Masters 1000 and WTA Premier Mandatory event on clay in Madrid, Spain.
The 25-year-old Canadian advanced to the second round and returned to the Top 10 in the new rankings published today at no. 10. Raonic kicked off his Madrid campaign with a 7-6(4), 6-1 win over Thomaz Bellucci of Brazil.

For his part, Vasek Pospisil was defeated in his opening round match 6-1, 6-7(4), 6-4 by Czech qualifier Radek Stepanek. Pospisil is in the doubles draw with Jack Sock while Stepanek will team up with Daniel Nestor.
In WTA action on Sunday, Eugenie Bouchard played her first match since suffering an abdominal injury in Charleston last month. She was defeated 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 by Irina-Camelia Begu of Romania, who went on to upset third-seeded Spaniard Garbine Muguruza in round two.
