It’s down to the final four at the U16 Outdoor Rogers Junior National Championships in Gatineau, Quebec following quarter-final Friday.
On the boys’ side, top seed Liam Draxl of Ontario continued his strong play, advancing via a 6-3, 6-2 victory over No. 5 seed Gabriel Diallo of Quebec. For Draxl, his five games lost were the first he dropped all tournament.
In the semifinals, he will take on Quebec’s Samuel Paquette, seeded No. 3. Paquette secured a comeback 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 triumph opposite Ontarian Daniel Fainblum.
No. 2 seed Alex-Antoine Marquis has also lived up to his billing and made the semifinals. He won on Friday 6-4, 6-2 versus Ethan Meanchos in another Quebec-Ontario duel. He will face another boy from Quebec for a place in the final as Sebastien Collard emerged 6-4, 6-2 from his quarter-final contest against Michael Pawlowicz.
In the girls’ draw, the top two seeds also remain in contention for the title, as No. 1 Rachel Krzyzak and No. 2 Alexandra Mikhailuk, both from Ontario, are through to the semifinals.
