Two Canadians are through to the second round at the Houghton Boston Tennis Classic in Saskatoon. Denis Shapovalov and Kevin Kylar were both successful in their opening matches at the $15,000 ITF Pro Circuit Futures event on Tuesday.
In an all-Canadian match up, Shapovalov triumphed over Harrison Scott 6-0, 7-6(0) to advance to the next round. Kylar defeated wild card entrant and fellow Canadian Dylan Bednarczyk in three sets 4-6, 6-3, 6-0.
No. 1 seed Marcos Giron will join them in the second round after winning his opening match of the tournament. American Giron defeated Robbie C. Bellamy, also of the United States, in straight sets 6-0, 6-4.
A revised order of play has Canadian Alexander Day scheduled to open Wednesday’s action on Centre court, going head-to-head with American Alexios Halebian. No. 4 seed Peter Polansky will follow, facing American Nicholas S. Hu, while No. 8 seed Brayden Schnur will face Hunter Nicholas of the United States on Court 6.
