Denis Shapovalov is being rewarded for his breakthrough 2017 season.

On Monday, the 18-year-old qualified for the inaugural Next Gen ATP Finals in Milan next month following his first round win over Yuichi Sugita in Basel.

Shapovalov is the fourth player to qualify for the event joining Alexander Zverev, Andrey Rublev, and Karen Khachanov, and he’s also the youngest to earn his spot so far.

“I’m very, very proud of myself and hopefully I can play really well there… Only eight guys get the privilege to play such a prestigious event. So I’m going to enjoy myself and try to do the best I can,” Shapovalov said.

In addition, Shapovalov is in the running for two ATP awards. He’s nominated for “Most Improved Player of the Year” along with Pablo Carreno Busta, Rublev, and Zverev. The winner will be determined by the player. He’s also the favourite to win the “ATP Star of Tomorrow presented by Emirates” which is given to the youngest player ranked in the Top 100 on the ATP rankings as of November 6.
