Competing on home soil and at familiar territory in the Aviva Centre, Team Canada didn’t disappoint at the Toronto 2015 Pan American Games this summer. Clinching two medals, it was the best performance ever by Canada at a Pan Am Games.

Philip Bester and Gabriela Dabrowski started off the winning, advancing to the gold-medal contest in mixed doubles before falling to Argentines Maria Irigoyen and Guido Andreozzi to secure the silver.

Not going to be satisfied with another second place, the next evening Dabrowski paired up with Carol Zhao to close out the tennis portion of the Pan Am Games on the highest note for Canada – by clinching gold in women’s doubles. In the last match of the tournament, they defeated Mexico’s Victoria Rodriguez and Marcelo Zacarias 6-1, 4-6, 10-5 in a thriller. Their victory represents the first gold medal in tennis ever won by Canada at the Pan Am Games, and the first at a multi-sport event since Daniel Nestor and Sebastien Lareau at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.
