It’s that time of year again! Christmas is 24 days away and the 2015 tennis season is officially in the books. That means it’s time to count down the Top 10 Canadian tennis moments of the year.
Coming in at no. 10… Eugenie Bouchard reaches the Australian Open quarter-finals.
It may not have been a standout season for Bouchard, but she did start 2015 on the right foot by advancing to the final eight Down Under for a second consecutive year, much to the delight of the popular Aussie Genie Army.
En route to the quarter-finals, Genie defeated Anna-Lena Friedsam, Kiki Bertens, Caroline Garcia, and Irina-Camelia Begu before falling to eventual finalist Maria Sharapova 6-3, 6-2 in a blockbuster women’s quarter-final.
Genie has now won nine matches in just two main draw appearances in Melbourne. Here’s to hoping that she can once again use the first Grand Slam of the tennis calendar to propel her 2016 campaign on the right track back to the top of the sport where she belongs.
