Coming in at No. 8 on our countdown of the 10 best Canadian moments of 2015: Milos Raonic’s first win over 14-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal.

Raonic’s statement win over Nadal early in 2015 at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells announced loud and clear that the big-serving Canadian is a permanent threat on court.

It was the first win over Nadal in six meetings for Raonic, who fired 18 aces en route to a hard-fought 4-6, 7-6 (10), 7-5 victory.

Raonic, the six seed, was rewarded with a semifinal against who else but Roger Federer, the tournament’s two-seed and four-time champion. Although he would fall to Federer, Raonic could feel satisfied for playing spoiler to an anticipated “Fedal” semifinal and collecting a huge win over a great player at a Masters 1000 tournament.
